Stop the Arrogance:  We Deserve a Better Local Government

"The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created." (TxGovtCode Sect 552.001)

We have seen the results of the "one party" system of Lubbock.  Most of our elected leaders have simply failed to provide the fiscal leadership they promised us. How often do we have an opportunity to do something about it?  More than ever, Lubbock needs a Commissioner with the courage to make real changes for our citizens and work for their benefit.  It is time to bring honesty and common sense back to Lubbock County by electing a Commissioner who will demand and demonstrate the fiscal constraints taxpayers and voters are looking for.

From 2002 to 2007 the County tax rate has increased at over 60% under Republican leadership.  In 2008, property valuations have been raised yet again, and will surely be raise for 2009 - all by “fiscal conservative” Republican leadership!  Do you want this trend to continue or are you ready to do something about it?

"Colonel" John Miller will:

Accept the salary that the office provides and limit increases to the cost of living index for Lubbock County.
Manage the County Budget efficiently and effectively under GAAP.
Control the rapidly growing costs of the new county jail project.
Limit the benefits provided at taxpayer expense to illegal immigrants and thereby reduce the burden they place on taxpayers. The Lubbock County Hospital District should be able to tell us what this burden places on it.

Time for Real Changes:  The current leadership has simply failed to demonstrate fiscal responsible governance for too long, squandering millions of our tax dollars.

John is running to restore the public trust and integrity of our local government .  He is running because he is a proven leader who will fight for the Lubbock Citizens and not in favor of lobbyists, special interest and powerful, partisan elites.

A Vote for Lt. Colonel John Miller, AUS-ret will be a vote to make real changes and not just more of the same old rhetoric.

Colonel Miller is President/CEO of a rapid growth corporation he started in 1997, which now has 27 employees located at the Reese Science & Technology Center. He is a retired combat military veteran with 39 years of service, who entered the Marines as a 17 year old Private and retired an Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel. He is a graduate of the Army Command & General Staff College; received his MBA from Oklahoma City University in 1986 while serving as a Field Artillery Captain at Fort Sill, OK where he commanded two units before being reassigned to Germany for another command assignment; he has been a member of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce since 1997; is a member of the Red Raider Club; is a Life Member of the NRA – having used some of his Marine Corps reenlistment money back in 1968 to pay the fee; a Life Member of the Military Officers Association; a Life Member of the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute; and he holds professional credentials as a Diplomat and Certified Homeland Security (CHS-Level V) of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security (ABCHS) as well as being Sensitive Security Information - Certified. He is extensively involved as a volunteer in local emergency management programs in the west Texas region and serves as Coordinator of the ABCHS National Emergency Response Team (NERT) for the west Texas region (one of four in Texas). His wife of 39 years serves as Math Coordinator at Roosevelt HS and they have two adult daughters that are both education professionals.

Food or Heat?
Why do our parents and grandparents suddenly have to decide between health care and food or heat to survive?
Love thy Neighbor
Why are we building great churches, yet permitting our values to lead to the highest STD and teenage pregnancies in Texas? Why do we have 17% of our children living in poverty? Is this your definition of compassion for children?
