I did not make
the decision to run again lightly, for it takes time away from
running my business and it takes money. But more than ever
before, Lubbock needs real change to get back the government we
deserve. I would like to serve the community that I love as a Commissioner.
With your help we can improve things and make our government better.
Profile
of the Candidate:
Citizen Soldier, Army of the United
States.
Lieutenant
Colonel John E. Miller, AUS-Ret is a 39+year military combat veteran
who rose through the enlisted and officer ranks. At the age
of 17 he dropped out of high school to join the Marines in
1965 and earned his GED while attending basic training at Parris
Island. Returning from Viet Nam in May
of 1968 he was promoted to Sergeant while stationed at
Quantico, VA and would marry
his childhood sweetheart Torill - who is the math coordinator
at Roosevelt HS. In 1975 John would be commissioned in the Army of the
United States as a Field Artillery Second Lieutenant and
ultimately retire with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Along the
way, John would earn his Associate of Science Degree in Law
Enforcement; his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Behavior Science; and his
Master in Business Administration. In 1985 he completed the
U.S. Army Command & General Staff College and in 1992 he
was selected as one of 25 USAR officers world-wide to
participate in the Army War College's Defense Strategy Course.
Though he semi-retired in 1996, shortly after the tragic 9/11
attack by terrorists on our country, he was called by Army
Counter-Intelligence Agents at Fort Bliss for his terrorism
threat assessment of west Texas. Not bad for a kid that dropped out
of school at the age of 17 to be a U.S. Marine.
John served
as Chairman of the South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG)
Citizen Corp Council until he announced his candidacy for
Commissioner. In that role, he also served as a member of
the Regional Planning Working Group (RPWG) sharing his
expertise in homeland security with other representatives of
the many jurisdictions represented in the SPAG.
